Shetland Sheep

A Community for Those Who are Hooked on Shetland Sheep

A Community for those who own or want to own Shetland Sheep. We discuss issues of special concern to Shetland sheep, such as; breeding, nutrition, care, fencing and housing, health, fleece, wool use, etc.

Community Support

There are minimal expenses for this community at this time.

As the community grows it will be necessary to add storage space and bandwidth in order to keep it from slowing down. There will then be an added monthly expense to keep it going.

There are also some extra features of the community that haven't been put into use because of space restrictions and cost.

If you would like to see this community grow, please consider a small donation:

Capucine

This morning, 04-30-08, Capucine presented me with a snappy little katmoget ewe lamb. Capucine is one of the last Fletcher Gem line ewes that I have left. Has a good, typey primitive fleece. She was bred to an Ohio Creek 4H ram lamb named Cap'n Jack. He's a black with a fantastic, cashmere-soft inner coat. Great, distinct outer coat. Great staple length. So, I'm thinking this little girl needs to be named Bridgit Bardot, just to keep up with the Old Hollywood theme I've used the last few years… Continue

New Alpaca

Its been a while since I've been on here, so much has been going on I lose track of my "me" time!! Tomorrow I'm going to buy my alpaca and bring her home. I bought her to use as a guard and protect my sheep. My sheep are doing so good now, they have such amazing personalities! I live right on a public river and my sheep fence runs all the way to the tree line in front of the river. There are alot of different culture people, including Cambodians, Africans, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, and some that… Continue

Shearing Day, 2008

Hurrah!! All the sheep are sheared, wool is in labeled sacks, ready for skirting, and samples of all sheep 2yrs and older are in labeled baggies, ready to send away for histograms. I ordered 6 sheep coats from Rocky Sheep, and put them on, but I ordered far too small and will need to order larger ones ASAP. Only one girl tried to escape from her coat, but seems to have settled down now. I used the same shearer as last year, but I could tell his recent heart attack has really affected him. This… Continue
